How to Prevent Razor Bumps

Black men who shave regularly are constantly at risk of developing razor bumps. The best way to prevent razor bumps from shaving is to use the correct shaving technique and tools for our hair type. The number one most effective way to prevent razor bumps for black men is to ditch the razor and begin using clippers to shave instead.

What are Razor Bumps?

Razor bumps occur when hair is cut below the skin and grows back in a direction that curls back into the skin causing a buildup of pus, inflammation, pain, and those unsightly razor bumps on your face. The short hair below the skin didn’t make it back through the same hole and is simply trying to grow.

Why do Razor Bumps plague black men?

The texture of black hair is somewhat coarse and curly. Normally the hair will start to curl once it is outside of the skin however, when cut too short (below the surface of the skin) it can tend to curl into the skin, causing razor bumps. If you are in a profession that requires shaving daily, such as the military, or a profession where it is frowned upon to grow a beard, you may have been battling razor bumps unsuccessfully for many years. There are two reasons why many black men have not been able to successfully figure out how to shave on a regular basis without having nasty razor bumps on their faces:

#1) Available Products

Most of the shaving products available for men are for those with straight hair. There is a larger market for people with straight hair in the western world, so it is only natural that most companies spend most of their effort catering to these people. There are far more products for them available in the stores and in general. The commercials on TV also effectively market products to the entire public that was specifically designed for people with straight hair. Black men unknowingly purchase these readily available products, use them, then later find out that it ruined their skin and get trapped in a never-ending cycle of buying and trying all different kind of shaving products that lead to no better result.

#2) Terrible Advice

There is a treasure trove of information available on the internet about everything selecting the appropriate wine to go with your meal, to how to survive a nuclear apocalypse. With that said, there are many so-called experts on the internet giving black men terrible advice about how to shave their faces. A lot of the advice given, is the mainstream, straight-hair method with some added nonsense to make it seem tailored to black men but it ends up usually being frustrating, useless, and wastes your money.

What qualifies me to give advice on the subject?

Simply put, I am a black man with coarse, curly (nappy) hair who have been shaving daily (except for weekends) for the past two decades and have had over 18 years of RAZOR BUMP FREE shaving! During that time, I served in the military and shaving was simply not optional. I have gone through the struggles and taught many how to Shave Bump Free! I have met many black men in the military struggling with razor bumps, and the unsightly “dark shadow” that is left on the face after years of shaving and suffering from razor burn and razor bumps. They were constantly going to medical to get temporary exemptions from shaving to allow their faces to heal, only to be in the same predicament shortly after.

I have also seen people go through the extremely damaging process of laser hair removal, only to be severely disappointed with the results – since that is another technology not developed with darker skin-tones in mind. I have successfully taught hundreds of black men over the last decade and a half how to Shave Bump Free. They ended up saving a ton of money and experienced unparalleled success. I am going to give you the same information that I gave them. It will change your life, and the best part is, it’s for free!

What if I must use a razor?
